Northstar Stables is hiring for summer 2011

Our season will be June 11 to Labor day 2011
We need 3 to 5 new employees, the work is seasonal, there is no lodging, and you have basic Workmens Comp.
INTERVIEWS:
Arrive to your interview dressed and ready to ride. Riding skill is the single most important criteria. Those who "pass" will fill out applications and arrange their training schedule. In addition to guides we need a person to run the PONY CAMP and a part time office helper.
REQUIREMENT OF THE JOB:
You must be over 18, fit, have a valid drivers license, and be an EXCELLENT rider. We raise and train all the horses we use and the guides help with the training. Then they use these young horses as their guide horses. Work is 5 days a week, from 8 to 5....sometimes longer if we have a dinner ride. Your duties will be grooming and saddling the horses, cleaning up the stable area, watering, feeding, and mostly taking out the rides as your manager assigns them. You keep your tips. You get bonuses.
THE HIRING PROCESS:
Email me or call me at
(775) 969-3315. We talk a bit to determine if this might work for you.
Step #1 Call or email to schedule an interview/tryout date. Come dressed to ride. You will be asked to halter a horse out of a group, tack him up, ride in the arena at a walk, trot and canter. Then you may be asked to ride out with us in the hills.
Things that count with us are: promptness, neatness, very good riding skills, good language and people skills. If you can not mount a normal sized horse properly from the ground do not even come out. This is a safety requirement, as 90% of the work is out in the open and you are responsible for your guests' safety. If you can't dismount and mount to aid them, you can not do the work.
Step #2. IF you pass, you will schedule 2 to 5 training days with us. You will get half pay...$5/hr. The discrepancy in the number of training days depends on your experience at this job. This will involve getting to know our procedures for working with young horses, how we guide rides, some trails you need to know, and basically how we do things. And you NEED to know all the horses and how they are to ride. If you are starting with us in the spring the work will be at Red Rock. If you are starting later, as in June, the work will be at Northstar.
Step #3 Again, IF you pass step #2, then you will be scheduled for regular work and will have 10 working days on probation. If you have another job at this point fine, you can work for us on your days off. Pay $8/hr.You will be doing the same work, you will go out on rides as an observer with an experienced guide and gradually do more on your own.
Step #4 You are put on the schedule as a regular employee at $10/hr and keep all your tips and get weekly bonuses. Figure very busy, very intense work from late June til Aug 25 or so. In the fall we do rides for guests and training in Red Rock and we like to keep a few employees part time til Nov if the weather stays nice.
