Need a Been-There, Done-That Trail Horse?Northstar Stables must reduce our herd. We are offering for sale the following experienced trail horses: | | Zephyr, 20yr old Quarter type mare has been a range broodmare in Nevada most of her life. 14'2hh, black with a blaze. She is healthy, has good feet, does not need any extra care other than decent hay and some grain each day. Acquired from a rescue this spring. We have been using her with our other "grandma" horse for beginner riders & for children. She has no buck, no spook, goes in a halter or bosal. Easy to groom, shoe, trailer....a nice old lady .....$300 | | Hot Wheels....an 11 yr mustang mare born on our ranch from mares we were caretaking. Jet black, small star, socks. She was started at 3, used as a guide horse a couple summers, then a customer horse. She is about 14'2, easy keeper, has had some arena work, so you can use her for beginners and kids in lessons. She just has short legs, despite her name she does not walk as fast as our other horses, but is totally dependable for kids, beginners, anyone........has had 2 really nice colts from our QH stud Cuervo ..............$800 |
| Margo, 10 yr Warmblood mare from our stud Bud Lite. 15'1, bay with blaze and 3 stockings. We started Margo and sold her at 3 to a show home. They did low level dressage, some eventing, trail riding with her. The owner lost interest, college, she was sold a couple times and we lost track.....got her back last year when a local riding stable went broke. So we have used her as a guide horse and for customers when we have a guest who has ridden English a bit. Margo is very "broke", has soft gaits, easy to ride, but sometimes gets scared when new things happen and she does not trust her rider. She needs to be a one person horse. We would really like to find the right home for her....a lady who rides, appreciates her gaits, is kind to her, maybe does a little dressage. Margo is very happy in an arena, could be a school horse. A very nice mare...come see her!..............$1500 |
| Chubbs...7 yr AQHA gelding from our mare Tuesday and Frost Quarter Horses Sunfast Star. A handsome bay gelding. 15'2, built like all the cowboys like. We started him at 2, no problems, he was a guide horse at 3 and 4, then a customer horse for most all kinds of riders. Why are we selling him? Well, he is the bulldog type of QH, almost a bit downhill, does not do well on steep terrain. Also, he definitely prefers women. Gets startled sometime with men with loud voices and quick gestures. We think he needs a lady owner, maybe does some trail riding, lives in the valley, maybe wants to show a bit, so he gets used to being ridden by the same person. ..........................$1500 |
| Leggs.....a 7 yr AQHA gelding from our stud Cuervo and a king Fritz mare. About 15hh, seal brown, no markings. We have 2 of his brothers, but Leggs is 7 now and he has not decided to be a riding stable horse. He is friendly, loves attention, is for sure broke to ride, will go anywhere. But this business of going on the same trails at a walk has him totally bored. So he goes along fine and then all of a sudden spooks. Not a problem for the guides, but not good if a person expects him to earn his living as a riding stable horse. He has just not settled down. I have had horses like this before, and they make great horses for individual owners. He has great legs, hence his name, a fast walk, is tough as nails and you can ride him at any speed in any terrain. He just needs another job. Needs to be ridden a lot, would be a good ranch horse out on one of those big Nevada ranches, or just a horse who gets ridden enough and enjoys his owner. $1200 | So this is what we have. They will be available for tryout at Northstar Stables thru Sept 5. (530.562.2480) then at Red Rock (775.969.3315) We also have some young stock we might sell, and you can see our stallions. Thanks, Terry and Leo |
