We were very pleased with our guest's enthusiasm for the "private rides only" policy. We will do the same this year. We take 1, 2, 3 riders at a time, sometimes 4 but no more. You are not put with strangers. We try to provide the best possible ride for your ability and interest level. Enjoy quality horseback riding with trained guides. The prices will remain the same as for 2009.
We encourage guests to check out the different rides and activities we offer and make reservations early. All of our trail rides use beautiful private forest land in the Tahoe area and are for riders 10 years and up.
Before your ride begins, you will have a brief orientation, question/answer period with your guide.

Bill and Marsha Taylor's wedding on horse back.....yes we do weddings!
One hour ride: We can use a walking trail that is fairly level if you are beginners. This is single track in the woods near some lovely meadow areas. "Meadow Trail". And yes we can do a little riding instruction along the way if you like.
If you are more advanced we will go up to the ridge and a viewpoint. "Lookout Trail." This trail is partly on old jeep roads, partly on single track trails. We can always help you get those special photos. The terrain is a bit steeper and there is opportunity to trot.
Please keep in mind you will have a better ride if you are of the same ability as other riders in your group. That is why we do private rides only. If there is a larger group, try to pick people to ride with who are the same skill as you are.
We have a pretty picnic area under the pines and a huge cookstove. We can make meals for up to 20 people. A breakfast ride can be booked after any ride. Just add $10 per rider. We need at least 6 people to make it worthwhile to fire up the stove. You have juice, cowboy coffee, milk, fresh fruit, pancakes and sausage.
A BBQ ride can be any time in the afternoon. We need at least 6 riders. Add $20 to your bill. So, a one hour ride followed by a BBQ will be $80, a 2 hour ride would be $120/rider.
Your menu is tri tip, sauteed chicken (Terry's Tequila Chicken) ) green salad, fruit salad, garlic bread, tortillas, coffee and cookies. We can pretty much offer these rides any day but do reserve at least 48 hours in advance.
Special parties: Do you have some youngster who want to have a birthday party? You are welcome to reserve the picnic area and do your own party. No charge. Or we can do hot dogs/hamburgers for the kids. You can have parties for the smaller children and everyone gets a few turns on the ponies and lots of opportunity for great photos.
Please arrange these at least 48 hrs in advance.
The price will depend on what sort of ride you want and the menu. Have an idea? Just ask and let's talk.
JD, now 17, as a foal born at Northstar-At-Tahoe-Resort. We breed and raise all of our saddle stock, including our ponies!
We have a new pony, Tucker.
Two hour ride:
This ride starts much the same as the one hour, but goes much higher to more viewpoints. The photo is of the view from the Swiss Hut, a cross country warming hut in the winter. You are on dirt roads more so you will be able to ride side by side , trot, even canter. The further we go, the more opportunity your guide will have to show you different places to ride. There are many little side trails and variations. That way if you ride with us again you don't have to worry you will be bored!! Ask for "Swiss Hut" or just "Two Hour Trail"
Three hour ride:
This is the one everyone wants. "Tahoe View". Yes you do have a lovely view of Lake Tahoe. This trail covers some of the same area as the 2 hour but goes much further through some lovely wooded areas. Plenty of opportunity to ride side by side, trot or canter if you are skilled enough. Great photo ops. We recommend this ride for people who are used to riding at least fairly often and are in good physical shape. Otherwise you can have painful leg or back cramps and no one will have an enjoyable time.
PONY RIDES:
FOR CHILDREN 9 and UNDER: Parents lead their children on a little trail in the woods....15 min....$10. Available daily 10AM to 1PM. No reservations needed.
* PONY CAMP...NEW!!!
Pony camp is designed as a beginning experience for children 5 to 9 yrs old. It is 1PM to 4PM Tuesdays thru Saturdays June 29 til August 27.
Children start with a talk about pony/horse behavior , some do's and don't's and a tour of the stables. Then they learn how to approach, pet, brush, saddle a pony. They will have turns being led on the pony trail. We will do a little Nature walk and talk about how ponies and horses see things differently and why.
If there is interest we can show them how to put up tents and they can make a little camp for snack time. Depending on the children who come we may do some arts/crafts activities. Children will help with unsaddling and feeding.
We will have an instructor for every 3-4 children.
Parents can reserve an afternoon session just as they would book a ride. We need at least 2 signups a day to do pony camp.
Come 15 min early for paperwork, please. Children need long pants, closed shoes, a jacket, sunscreen and a snack. They should be fairly fit, able to be active all afternoon with a snack break.....$40.
